Breathtaking: K2 - The World's Most Dangerous Mountain | Eddie Bauer

60 979 Zhliadnutia 6 mil.
Šport

“K2 is a savage mountain that tries to kill you.” That is how climber George Bell described the infamous peak after the first American expedition in 1953-forever giving the mountain its nickname-The Savage Mountain. Sixty-six years later, Eddie Bauer mountain guides Adrian Ballinger and Carla Perez aim to summit the 8611-meter peak and join a community of explorers fewer in number than those who have been to outer space. Even more incredible, they both will attempt the feat without the use of supplemental oxygen. Every step of the way the team faces hazardous conditions, terrifying setbacks, and crushing misfortunes. But as Ballinger puts it, “I'll go until the mountain tells me I can’t go anymore.”

My dad has summited the north cascades over 200 times, guided countless climbs in that region. He climbed with Jim Wickwier, who was the first American to summit K2. Dad was set to go on a K2 mission in the 80s, but had to stay home for a family emergency. His friends that went died in an avalanche. Avalanches are pretty common there I guess. Before the age of 30, he'd lost about 6 friends to climbing. And they were all experienced professionals, but mother nature isn't something you can predict. I recommend a book called Addicted to Danger. It's strange to read the book, and know that he knew and climbed with some of the men who died. You gain respect for the challenge that these people face. It's a way to honor their efforts, skill, and to maybe allow others to learn their stories because they were great climbers. It's aptly named...climbing is dangerous, but the people who do it are a different breed. Their addicts! Addicted to what the world holds. God bless all you climbers out there and STAY SAFE.

Amazing video and enormous success to take on the most dangerous mountain in the world without a supplemental oxygen, but going back down is as dangerous as going up, kind a disappointing to see that video ends with reaching the summit

So now these things don't look so dangerous free solo climbing, cave diving, moon mission, Mars mission, formula 1 racing, wing suit, high diving, Reno Air Races, daily commute to work, firefighter, police, Russian Roulette, dealing with an x spouse, wild animal trainer, falling in love, getting married a second time, trusting a commercial that says "call now" what did I leave out ?

Falun Dafa is a spiritual self cultivation practice of mind and body that improves both health and morality. It is based on Universal principles of Truth, Compassion, Forbearance. Since 1999 Falun Dafa practitioners are facing the most brutal persecution in the history of mankind at the hands of the Chinese communist party.

The porters striking is exactly what they should do. Why are they calling it tips instead of pay for work. The porters should be organized so they have a union where everyone works for a collectively bargained fair wage for all or no one works at all. With swift justice for those who cross the picket line. Good on them for striking. A tip really thats dehumanizing. Youd treat a mule better buying more than 2 dollars of feed and water. Its not like getting anything up to that place is at all cheap. How is a porter to even feed himself for 2 bucks theres no freekin wall mart at the base of k2 and you try to offer a toonie for work that should really involve danger pay and a labour agreement including stops for altitude climitization and a dozen more things. Tip him a toonie my lord!?!

Why do climbers go from one climb (mountain), right to another climb/Mt without first letting their body 'HEAL'?? That's just dumb! There's pushing yourself (ones body) and then there is ABUSE of ones body. From one climb, right into another, is ABUSE. And this is why 2 of these climbers got so sick. I'm always curious as to what climbers 'diets' are. (by the way.....antibiotics are BAD for people! They TRASH the IMMUNE SYSTEM.).
